Represented by Ian Raisbeck and Joshua Collingwood, the LUGS competed in the prestigious Alba Trophy at Woking Golf Club on Saturday 6 June. The event, played over 36 holes, threw up wet and windy conditions throughout the day but was nevertheless as enjoyable as ever.
The pair made a flying start to their morning round, beginning on the 15th hole and immediately picking up a birdie. Things got even better on the next when Raisbeck produced the shot of the day, recording a hole-in-one on the 16th hole. The early fireworks quickly cooled; but they finished with a solid opening round of 76, leaving them five shots off the lead at the halfway stage.
After lunch, conditions remained difficult, but the pair continued to battle hard. The afternoon round featured further birdies on the 11th and 17th holes following wonderful approach shots from Collingwood to keep the team in contention. A handful of short missed putts from the 14th ultimately proved costly, however, preventing an even lower score.
Despite the testing weather the pair combined well to post rounds of 76 and 74, for a 36-hole total of 150, securing 6th place overall in a strong field.
The famous Raisbeck generosity saw to it that everyone went home well refreshed.
