LUGS Autumn Meeting Friday 9 October 2026 at Hadley Wood Golf Club

The LUGS Autumn Meeting took place at the wonderful Hadley Wood Golf Club, with a day of excellent golf, great company and superb hospitality. Although the weather was windy, conditions remained fair, and the course was presented in immaculate condition. The greens were rapid, providing the perfect setting for a memorable day of golf.

We were delighted to welcome four current students to the meeting: Adele de Saab, Eric Wu, Benjamin Khoo and Jaime Lorenzo Albastro. Their youth, enthusiasm and enjoyment added a fantastic dimension to the day, and it was wonderful to see the next generation of LUGS members embracing the occasion and contributing so positively to the atmosphere.

The morning foursomes was won by Gorm Nielsen and Mike Edwards, a formidable partnership whose combined years of experience shone through. Their steady play and understanding of the Mike’s home course advantage proved a winning combination, setting an excellent benchmark for the rest of the field.

Following the morning golf, players were treated to an excellent lunch of beef short rib, mashed potatoes and vegetables. The wonderful food provided by Chef Barry was thoroughly enjoyed, as was the wine sponsored by Andrew Westmore. Both were very much appreciated and, if the afternoon scores were anything to go by, certainly seemed to provide some additional inspiration!

In particular, Eric Wu and Robin Ellis found another gear in the afternoon fourballs, returning an impressive 41 points to improve considerably on their morning performance. Their strong finish was one of the highlights of the afternoon competition.

However, the overall honours went to Joshua Collingwood and Matthew Gumble, the former Royal Holloway partnership rolled back the years with a superb all-round performance. Scoring 36 points in the morning and an excellent 41 points in the afternoon, their winning total of 77 points, secured victory by three points. A thoroughly deserved win for a partnership that clearly knows how to get the job done!

A huge thank you is due to everyone who helped make the day such a success. In particular, our sincere thanks go to Mike Edwards for generously providing the wine prizes, to Andrew Westmore for sponsoring the wine enjoyed at lunch, and to Barry for the excellent food. We are also extremely grateful to Hadley Wood Golf Club for their spectacular hospitality and the immaculate presentation of the course.

Above all, it was another wonderful LUGS gathering, combining competitive golf with friendship, good food and the opportunity to welcome our current students into the fold. Congratulations to all our winners, and thank you to everyone who attended and contributed to such an enjoyable autumn meeting.

We look forward to seeing everyone again at the next LUGS event!
