Taylors star in St Andrews debut

Stars of their university sides and then the LUGS, Alison and Nicola Taylor made very fine debuts in their first meeting at St Andrews. Mother Alison (Royal Free 1980-85) and daughter Nicola (Imperial 2009-13) were elected to the Royal & Ancient on the same day earlier this year and played their first medal in the Spring Meeting on Wednesday 8 May. Alison, accompanied by past captain Pierre Bechmann, struck a nerveless drive off the first tee, ending up closer to the Swilken than Granny Clark’s Wynd. With George Yeandle (LSE 1978-81) in her group, Nicola’s preparation involved a calming whisky or two – but that proved equally effective for good golf.

Excellent rounds gave Nicola and Alison second and third places in the women’s scratch, with Nicola winning the Royal and Ancient Medal.

Many congratulations to both Alison and Nicola!
