New website launch – November 2021 update

Since launching the website in July 2021, we have managed to play matches against the SUGS at Sandwich, the QUGS at Portrush, the DUGS at Portmarnock and Berkhamsted at the club. In short, a very welcome return to some great courses after the lengthy Covid layoff.

Of the 180 or so LUGS we contacted with news of the website, responses have come from approximately 20 golfers. All responses have been positive about the initiative. A number of individuals commented that it would be good to have a directory on the website so LUGS could contact each other – this will only become useful if we have the consent of golfer to use their data; so, if you are interested in this, please complete the details requested under the contact us page.

Another avenue to explore is the expansion of the LUGS calendar. If there is, over the course of the next years, the interest in LUGS golf that we anticipate, new fixtures will be required to meet the demand. If there are LUGS that have ideas for new matches and are able to help run them, they are invited to come forward. To date, we have two possibilities at an early stage of development.

We are in contact with the current student captain and are hoping to announce a date and venue for a match against London University in the new year. There is also some enthusiasm for a LUGS day – Hadley Wood is a candidate for hosting and we are keen to gauge enthusiasm among LUGS – so please let us know if you would be interested in participating.
