About Us

LUGS is a society open to all golfers that studied at London University whether they are Purples, regularly represented the university golf team or came to realise what they were missing by not playing university golf only after coming down.

Our principal fixtures to date are against graduate golfing societies of the Scottish universities, Trinity College, Dublin and Queen’s University, Belfast. Each of these societies has active fixture lists that involve matches against other societies, clubs and their undergraduates as well as regular golfing meetings.

We are following their example and have fixtures against Berkhamsted Golf Club, the alumni sides of St Peter’s and Uppingham schools at New Zealand and the PUGS (the alumni society of the universities of Paris) which is played, alternately, at Sandwich and St Germain. We have also revived our fixture against the undergraduate side, which we play at Huntercombe at the end of the year, and have established a Spring Meeting which took place for the first time at Sandwich in March 2025.

If you are interested in joining the LUGS, you are encouraged to complete our contact form with your details. This will help establish a more comprehensive database for us to contact society members and, hopefully, lead to some reconnections between old friends. You are also encouraged to make direct contact with the match managers identified on our fixture list to express interest in games.

The LUGS runs on an informal basis and no ideas are set in stone as to how we take the society forward. So, we would strongly encourage you to come forward by contacting us not only in expressing your interest in the society but also with any ideas you have to drive it on.

We look forward to the LUGS growing into a vibrant society of great camaraderie and fine golf!
